Having built my last 2 PC’s myself, I considered doing the same for my son after deciding to purchase him his first ever desktop PC for his birthday.

Before ordering my individual components, and purely out of curiosity I searched the Internet for barebone systems and stumbled across UK Gaming Computers (who I admit I’d never heard of before). I quickly saw that they were offering a vast selection of cracking looking cases with some great specs that suited every budget.
After very little deliberation I decided to remove the hassle of a self-build and purchase the very competitively priced and rather well specced ‘The Block’, which I knew would be a great starter machine for my son.

The UKGC website was a breeze to navigate and I particularly found the customisation screen to be excellent, allowing upgrades and downgrades to be made to the stock machine with ease, re-calculating the final price in the process.

In the end I decided to only change the internal LED lighting from green to blue and upgrade the hard drive to a 2TB Barracuda as all the stock components were excellent for that particular price point. I had initially considered removing the hard drive from my order altogether and sourcing one from an alternative supplier however the UKGC upgrade price was no more expensive than buying and fitting the drive myself.

Including delivery, my final invoice was well within my £500 budget and after completing the simple checkout procedure I received regular email updates on the status of my order, with the actual build time being shorter than expected.

At 1.45pm on the Tuesday I picked up an email from UKGC informing me that the machine was ready for shipping and after logging into their website to arrange this I saw that if I phoned them before 2pm they would ship that same day for me. My subsequent phone call was answered within 2 rings by a very friendly member of staff who arranged for my secure and insured delivery to be made the following day.

Further status updates then followed from the courier and at 11am the following morning my order was complete and I took delivery of the computer as promised.

The machine was extremely well packaged with numerous stickers on the exterior indicating that the contents were fragile and valuable. On removing the packaging there were ample instructions for the novice on how to setup the machine and I really welcomed the internal foam padding, which was moulded around the motherboard and PSU to negate the chance of any damage being caused during transit.

When removing this internal padding I had a good look around to see how the build compared to my own previous builds. It was excellent with everything neatly tucked away and all the expected components found in their proper place. I was surprised at the size of the tower, which was larger than expected, affording plenty of future upgrade options.

Everything looked great and things got even better when I powered the machine up, saw the blue case lighting and noted how whisper quiet everything was. The case really looks the part and the side window reveals the nice tidy innards, shrouded in a subtle neon blue light produced by the LED’s situated on the front of the case.
Windows was quickly installed on a 500GB partition leaving me a second partition of 1.34TB for storage and backup.

My son has been running the computer for a week now and it hasn’t skipped a beat allowing him to run all his software and play all his games with aplomb. He is absolutely over the moon with his new PC and his father is just a little bit jealous, trying hard to now justify an upgrade of my own PC considerably earlier than really needed.

When that time does come I honestly don’t think I could build a better-looking custom machine any cheaper than UKGC could supply one. Throw in a 6-year warranty and fantastic customer service and it makes perfect sense to buy rather than build.

I would have no hesitation in buying from UKGC again and would happily recommend them to anyone interested in buying a stunning and well specified PC at a highly affordable price.
